LOCAL ESCAPE PLANby PORT CAMPBELL VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE
We know the lawns are done and to tell you the truth the family pet could probably do with a rest. So what are you waiting for? Put on a load of washing, grab the keys, camera, coats, and wallet and get ready to hit the road. Now you can even pick up a friend on the way.
Good thing about living down our way is you won’t have to spend too much time in the car to get somewhere wonderful. And if you give in to all that tail wagging, trembling and puppy dog eyes there are still plenty of places you can explore together which are dog friendly.
Why not tell the crew you’re going to climb a mountain? And when we say mountain we actually mean volcano! If that doesn’t go down well, just tell them that walking uphill is going to make them hungry and suggest there is one Mount you can drive up and enjoy your picnic in the car.
Sound good? If you want some more options or it’s raining, here are some of our favourite local take-away with a view spots. Mt Leura, Camperdown Botanic Gardens lookout, Lake Tooliorook, Peterborough Headland, Deep Lake, Port Campbell Bay and Princetown.
If all that sounds a bit hectic for your ideal day out, you can always drop in a line fishing. And if you wait till café’s can do more than offer takeaway you might just discover a Café on one of Victoria’s most coveted trout fishing lakes? Lake Edge Café.
How about a day exploring our quieter country roads north of the Princes Hwy? With dry stone walls and green pasture as far as the eyes can see, you could be forgiven for feeling like you are taking a drive through the Scottish or Irish countryside.
Got a bike? Why not try a local off road trail? Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail, Camperdown Timboon Rail Trail or the Terang to Mount Noorat Trail and if you are a confident road cyclist, why not take a drive and ride somewhere new? Check out our favourite cycling routes here.
And while you are out and about you may want to head out along the Hamilton Hwy and discover our big new thing in Lismore.
Truth is, we are spoilt for choice with wonderful locations from the dry stone walls, peaks, lakes and charming townships of our Volcanic Lakes and Plains to the wonders of our stunning southern coast coastal trails and lookouts and rainforest.
No better time, no better reason!
Rekindle your family’s appreciation of where we live and support local businesses on the way.
Our regional businesses have been severely impacted by COVID restrictions and could really use your support. Let them know where you are from! All businesses open will be practising strict hygiene procedures and have measures in place to continue trading. They just may feel a little more comfortable to know that you haven’t travelled too far to support them. Let ‘em know you’re local and let ‘em know you care.
The big sleepover:
When restrictions ease from the 1st of June and you are comfortable, why not invite your friends and family down? There are plenty of accommodation options and local businesses that will be ready to help make the family reunion you have all been waiting for a reality.
There is nothing like viewing the beauty of our region through the eyes of a guest.
